Beware of My Cloud Firmware auto update

If you have made changes in the system via ssh, these changes will be wiped off by the My Cloud Firmware update.

All the user installed packages are gone after the firmware update. There are 2 WD processes that are using a lot of CPU, they are wdmcserver and wdphotodbmerger. Seems like all non-hidden folders under /shares will be processed by them. Probably a good idea to use hidden folders if they are not supposed to be shared. I will disable the firmware auto update feature.

New My Cloud Firmware is announced at WD Community: News & Announcements.

Though there is one good thing it does, it frees up the internal root partition space.

Changes in /etc/apt/sources.list is gone.

1 # apt-get update
2

After apt-get update, I proceed to install the debian packages.
